Conclusions for the Structure and Combat Capabilities of the Bundeswehr
The war between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh, which lasted 44 days in the fall of 2020 and took place with the active support of Azerbaijan from Turkey, a NATO member state, is already being studied in specialized analytical centers of Europe.
In particular, the German Federal Academy for Security Policy (BAKS) has just released an analytical material on the results and possible consequences of the use of Turkey-made military unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the above-mentioned military conflict.
The effective use of UAVs by the Azerbaijani side, German analysts believe, may have far-reaching consequences for the armed forces of other countries and lead to a revision of the principles of warfare using conventional weapons systems.
In his article, Franz-Stefan Gady, BAKS expert, a research fellow at the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), expresses his position on the results of the successful use of UAVs and analyzes future prospects of local wars in today’s realities.
