Interview with Germany’s Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer
Last year was marked by the presidency in the Council of Europe of one of the EU’s leading states, one of the leading geopolitical subjects of modern Europe — economically powerful Germany, whose role in the EU or NATO is difficult to overestimate.
Germany’s Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer recently spoke about the main tasks facing the German Federal Ministry of Defense and the Bundeswehr today.
For example, the issue of Europe’s potential defense capabilities in ensuring its own security without US involvement is quite serious and relevant. A. Kramp-Karrenbauer emphasizes that such cooperation with the United States is extremely important for Europe, because it allows to control the actions of individual countries, especially Russia, which is currently constantly modernizing and rearming its armed forces and which now has the ability to use high-precision hypersonic missiles.. This is a challenge for NATO and Europe, so they must stand side by side in the transatlantic alliance, including with partners from the Americas.
Estimating the role and possible influences of geopolitical giants, Russia and China, as the most threatening countries for the West, the German Federal Minister of Defense acknowledged that Russia remains a serious challenge for Europe. As for China, she estimates the dangers of its influences only in the long term perspective.
