The USA-China Confrontation: Competition Between “Autocracy and Democracy”

China does remain the biggest challenge for the United States and its allies

The confrontation between the United States and China does not stop, and even more so, it begins to show signs of escalation, although the new US President Joseph Biden seems not to be going to follow the policy of his predecessor. On the issue of bilateral relations with the main geopolitical adversary of the United States — China — he suddenly did turn out to be a follower of such a policy.

Relations with China can be considered the most geopolitically important for the Biden administration in the coming decades. After all, there is more to it than just economic competition — J. Biden speaks about the competition between “autocracy and democracy”.

Taking office earlier this year, Democrat J. Biden said he would review the previous administration’s policy toward China. But he has also made it clear that he intends to pursue a tough course and that he will not passively watch how authoritarian Beijing wins the initiative in world trade and global competition for advanced technologies.

The future will show how effective a sanctions policy can be. In fact, it would be a success if the USA’s allies in Europe and Asia joined efforts on this issue. Biden succeeded in consolidating the allies and returning to European partners as a guarantor of stability and the continuation of previous security policy. But whether the United States will become a reliable guarantor of security and guarantee respect for its partners’ interests in the confrontation with China, future developments will show.
