Such a Trade Operation Goes Beyond Simple Economic Deal
Switzerland is traditionally considered the most conservative and fundamentally apolitical of all European countries. Trying to minimize external influences through the achievements of a self-sufficient national economy and the standard of living of its own citizens, Switzerland, however, faces the need to make political choices. I mean the fundamental decision to purchase American F-35 fighters. Such a trade operation goes beyond simple economic deal, highlighting Switzerland’s foreign policy priorities, shaped by both the European Union and geopolitical giants such as the United States and China.
Switzerland continues to balance between the priorities of common values with the EU and the economic and illusory prospects of endless neutrality and non-alignment. It is also clear that sooner or later, a prosperous and well-off Switzerland will have to choose between these poles and make a choice not only in terms of economic priorities and maintaining a peaceful life, but also in view of the geopolitical prospects of coexistence.
