As we have already reported on our website, the Federal Office for the Protection of the German Constitution (Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz, BfV) in June 2021 published an annual report on the status of such activities in 2020. The report was presented to the public by Horst Seehofer, Federal Minister of the Interior, Building and Community, and Thomas Haldenwang, president of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

The document names foreign states, their special services and structures that pose a threat to Germany’s national security. The report also cites domestic threats to Germany’s security as a result of hostile politically motivated crime, right-wing extremism and right-wing extremist terrorism, and certain political and religious groups operating in Germany that are closely linked to foreign, left-wing extremism, Islamic terrorism and close to them foreign structures.

The section “Espionage, Cyber Attacks and Foreign Influences Threatening National Security, and the Activities of Foreign Intelligence Services in the Interests of Foreign Countries” identifies the intelligence and counterintelligence structures of some countries that pose the greatest threat to German security. These are the Russian Federation, the People’s Republic of China, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Turkey and some other states. Let’s pay attention to the sections of the report which provide the analysis of espionage activity of the Russian Federation in the territory of Germany.
