This time, the problem of island countries, such as remoteness from the rest of the world, became their real advantage
Today, the COVID-19 epidemic has covered virtually all countries except for the ten small island states of the Pacific. The island states’ remoteness from civilization centers of the world, which has always been considered a problem, this time allows the local population to avoid infection.
All South Pacific countries (with the exception of Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea) have small population. All of them are largely not rich, so if there were several serious cases of COVID-19 now, local health systems would be immediately overwhelmed.
Since the income of the countries in the region depends heavily on tourism, the economically and technologically backward countries of the South Pacific will not be able to cope with the pandemic or survive the economic crisis caused by it, without external assistance.
