No exaggeration will be to say that on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, with the beginning of the supply of non-Russian, Norwegian gas began a new era of independent (from Moscow) Ukraine. And this new era was started not by a prominent politician, but by a simple expert, patriot, chief of «Naftogaz of Ukraine» Andriy Kobolev. It was he who, with the blessing of the state administration, government and energy industry, last week in Norway for the first time in the history of the company signed a contract with Statoil for the supply of non-Russian gas to Ukraine.
In Ukraine, not everybody and not soon will realize what happened on the first day of October of the current year. This is — a real breakthrough in the gas direction. The second breakthrough in a row (the first happened when we finally convinced Slovakia in reverse), confirming the sequence of steps of the state of Ukraine. So, Naftogaz has first of all significantly narrowed the possibilities of Russians in their obstruction of gas supplies to Ukraine on reversal patterns.
Obviously, in the nearest future we will witness grateful talks of the head of our state with the head of Norway, of the head of the Government of Ukraine — with his Norwegian counterpart and so on.
No doubt, so far small quantities are provided for deliveries to us through Slovakia. But this is only the beginning, just laying of the road.
This will surely greatly strengthen our position in the negotiations with the Russian Federation over the price of Russian gas.
It is obvious that the supply of Norwegian gas will serve as a welcome indicator for foreign investments into the economy of our state.
It is also obvious that the Kremlin with its rage will not be slow to answer. Apparently, in the form of military escalation in the Donbas…
In fairness it should be noted that the beginning of this process was laid back in 2008, when the then third President of Ukraine had approved the concept of our state’s strategic cooperation with the Norwegian company Statoil. Unconditional is the merit of the current President and the head of the Ukrainian government, and of all those involved in organizing the supply of Norwegian gas to Ukraine.
Recently, we tried to predict precisely this development of events.
It is not known whether the leaders of the Ukrainian gas sphere play chess, but on the gas board, they did checkmate Miller and Putin perfectly well. Checkmated, and, most likely, made them, at least use more curse words. After all, in Russia they are not used to (and probably cannot) respond else wise.
