Sweden’s Parliamentary Majority Is for Joining NATO

Russia’s aggressive non-neighborly policy provokes neutral European countries to reconsider the principles of their own military strategy

An important event related to the Swedish Democrats is taking place in the Parliament of neutral Sweden. Its members demand that the government declare its support for NATO. In fact, this is the first time that in neutral Sweden, the Riksdag’s majority believes that, in principle, their country’s accession to NATO is quite possible.

The Sweden Democrats hold 62 of the 349 seats in the Riksdag, as the Swedish Parliament is called. Together with the Moderate Party, Liberals, Christian Democrats and the Centre Party, the so-called pro-NATO majority of the Riksdag holds a total of 205 seats.

Thus, Russia’s aggressive non-neighborly policy provokes neutral European countries to reconsider the principles of their own military strategy and ensure national security, bringing the Scandinavian European countries closer to NATO.
