Successes Near Bakhmut: Expert Explains What Is Happening at the Front

Ivan Sichen, an expert of the Independent Analytical Center for Geopolitical Studies “Borysfen Intel”, for Gazeta.ua

Over the past week, the Ukrainian military managed not just not to lose positions near Bakhmut, but rather to move forward. The offensive, which the Russians have been preparing since last year, has failed. And this is the beginning of their internal catastrophe. This was told in a comment for Gazeta.ua by military expert Ivan Sichen.

“So far, there are some tactical actions. But we broke the situation. The enemy cannot attack. It went on the defensive. We are close to the encirclement of Russians — everything goes to that. This is not yet a counteroffensive. But we are gradually recapturing territories”, Sichen said.

The situation at the front has led to political changes in Russia, the expert added.

“The offensive, which the Russians have been preparing since last year, has failed. They see it. There is an internal catastrophe in Russia. Prigozhin says this has already happened. He asks the question — why is the Russian army retreating? And his troops are actually surrounded. People living in Russia say failures at the front have become the trigger for political problems. Recently, Russian helicopters were shot down in Bryansk. And our air defense forces did it. In Kursk and Bryansk regions, there are almost hostilities — some areas are under our fire. And this affects the mood of the Russian society”, Sichen explained.

The advance of Ukrainian troops in the Bakhmut direction is the first offensive success during the operation to defend Bakhmut in Donetsk region. And it has to be perceived as a partial success. This was said by Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi.

The Ukrainian military in the Bakhmut sector did not lose positions over the past week and advanced by 2 km.
