We should congratulate Poland on its having started production of the so-called “shale” gas.
It has been almost four years since Poland began the work, the results of which are now 0.8 to 3.0 trillion cubic meters of this unconventional gas included in the state’s reserves. We may say that at such a high rate of development, within 1.5 – 2 years the volumes of production will reach industrial values and thus the energy independence of Poland will increase.
By this, in particular, the official Warsaw is showing the world its consistency and reliability, particularly in terms of gaining independence from Russia. Its role in the EU is growing too.
Ukrainian experts and politicians should carefully observe and study the Polish experience in order to introduce this positive in their own state. As to the negative, they should just take it into consideration and correct. It is important that Poles are willing to share this information. Surely we should get interested in it.
First of all it concerns Western Ukraine, which has developed Olesko field. However, do not forget the East of Ukraine, where it is estimated that there are also significant reserves.
This Polish experience of ensuring environmental safety in hydraulic fracturing is very important for the local population, as Polish deposits are more similar to ours than U.S. ones, where shale gas has also been successfully extracted.
Note that we should not “break through the knee” local governments, particularly in Ivano- Frankivsk region, as is evident from the recent statement of the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine E. Stavytskyi. Better, referring to positive foreign experience, to try and convince local citizens, and not to force them into submission without proof. This way local population will have more reasons to respect authority. So better not to save time and find understanding, rather than completely, for many years to lose Ukrainians’ credence.
At this, we should be ready for the huge opposition on the side of Russia, in particular through its agents among the local population, state leaders, political parties and others. For the Kremlin reduction of its gas production or increase of Ukraine’s own one is tantamount to a failure of its foreign policy, as it will destroy the last opportunity to influence the official Kyiv though unfair Russian gas imports.
Poles realized it long ago and have not been sitting on their hands. Now, in the ranks of the EU, it is much easier for them to do it. And we should take example from them.
