The attention of analysts who follow the strategic European partners of Ukraine, was drawn to the latest developments in Germany around the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) budget.
It is noteworthy that the changes in the priorities of the use of national armed forces, announced recently by the Federal Ministry of Defense of Germany, are due to the actual requirements of time and the current geopolitical situation on the continent. The main imperatives of the time in determining the functions of the national armed forces of Germany are events in the east of Ukraine and the annexation of the Crimea by Russia.
Intensive reform and modernization of the German Bundeswehr may give impetus to other EU and NATO countries to revise their national military doctrines and commitments within defense alliances.
EU countries will have to increase funding for the maintenance of national armed forces, according to NATO requirements, at least 2 % of GDP, which will lead to a review of planning and implementation of military cooperation with other countries, including Ukraine.
