A few days ago, some European media, including the German Handelsblatt and the Austrian Die Presse, reported about Russian submarines’ unusual activity in North Atlantic.
Purposeful in nature, publication of such information took place after the London Summit of NATO. There were also reports of testing new Russian ground, sea and airborne missile systems, the use of Russian combat aviation in Syria, unprecedented concentration of heterogeneous troops and weapons of the Russian Armed Forces in Crimea, the planned testing of submarines and training of the Russian Navy in the ocean.

Засоби масової інформації та експертне середовище західноєвропейських країн приділяють підвищену увагу розвитку відносин з країнами Азії. Так, авторитетне швейцарське видання Neue Zürcher Zeitung розміщає на своїх сторінках огляди подій у згаданому регіоні під рубрикою NZZ-Asien. У дослідженнях NZZ-Asien звертається увага на помітно зростаючу важливість азійського регіону, в 20-ти економічно найважливіших країнах якого на сьогодні проживає понад 4 млрд осіб. Швейцарські політичні експерти вказують, що це населення вже забезпечує випуск третини світової економічної продукції. Завдяки таким швидким темпам зростання, ринки Далекого Сходу привертають до себе увагу навіть високорозвиненої швейцарської економіки. Зокрема, швейцарський експорт до Азії протягом останніх десяти років зріс до 40 млрд швейцарських франків (36,42 млрд євро). Тільки на Китай (включно з Гонконгом) припадає майже половина цього експорту.

Динаміка розвитку подій у басейні Чорного моря свідчить, що через агресивність Російської Федерації у цьому регіоні стає досить небезпечно. Після двох актів агресії — незаконної анексії Криму та обмеження судноплавства у Керченській протоці — наступним таким етапом найбільш імовірно будуть деструктивні дії росіян у північно-західному секторі Чорноморського басейну, зокрема щодо взяття під контроль острова Зміїний та обмеження доступу до Одеси, Чорноморська та інших українських портів. Такими своїми кроками Росія не лише намагається економічно придушити Україну. Такі кроки також слід розглядати в рамках російської стратегії щодо утвердження РФ як військово-політичного гегемона на Чорному морі. А тому ситуацію у регіоні більше не можна розглядати як справу суто причорноморських країн. Вона стосується в цілому і НАТО.

Геополітичні наслідки таких подій вже спостерігаються у регіоні і безперечно впливають на стан речей як власне у Сирії, так і в країнах ЄС і НАТО.
