A Military Analyst Has Told What the Proxy Republic of the Russian Federation Is Capable of
Ivan Sichen, an expert of the Independent Analytical Center for Geopolitical Studies “Borysfen Intel”, commented on the situation in Transdniestria for Gazeta.ua
Russia is trying to resort to provocations on the territory of unrecognized Transdniestria in order to withdraw Ukrainian forces from Kherson. If the Kremlin really dares to attack with the help of a proxy republic, Moldova will have a chance to regain the occupied territories. This was stated in a comment to Gazeta.ua by military analyst Ivan Sichen.
Transdniestria is one of the first “self-proclaimed republics” created by Russia. It is completely under the control of the Kremlin. There are Russian troops there. Now Transdniestria is said to be able to attack Odesa region. They can, of course, dare to do so. But we must realistically assess their strength – there are two Russian battalions there. One guards the warehouses. The other is allegedly carrying out a peacekeeping mission”, says Sichen.
There are also forces of Transdniestria itself – these are three more battalions, the analyst explains.
“In total, there are up to five battalions in this unrecognized republic. These are not the forces that can really confront Ukraine. If they go on the offensive, Moldova will have every opportunity to regain control of the occupied region. And Romania can help them. Now there is no Russian army, which created the conditions for the liberation of Transdniestria. And Russia cannot come to the rescue, because its entire army is tied to the war in Ukraine”, says Sichen.
If Transdniestria’s forces try to attack Ukraine, they will simply be destroyed, the analyst adds.
“If Russia dares to take this step, Transdniestria will simply be destroyed within a few days. And Moldova will regain control of its territories. Most likely, this is just a provocation to prevent Ukraine from redeploying troops to Kherson”, Sichen says.
