Russia is trying to throw the mobilized as cannon fodder to different parts of the front, but nothing comes of it
Russia is losing the territories of Ukraine, which it has occupied since February 2022, and its soldiers. At the same time, mobilization fails — Russians do not want to join the army. Ukraine has seized the initiative in the war. This was told in a comment to Gazeta.ua by military expert Ivan Sichen.
“We have almost liberated Kharkiv region. Now we are already in Luhansk region. An offensive is also taking place in Kherson region. There, our troops have almost approached the Dnieper and blocked all the ways of supplying Russian troops, they are surrounded. I think the Russians do not have the forces to stay there. Because their mobilization fails. Because people don’t want to go to the army. And those who do go to the front are surrendering en masse”, says Sichen.
Ukraine has seized the initiative in the war, the expert emphasizes.
“We are driving the invaders out of our land. And the annexation of the territories that Russia has proclaimed means nothing. Because we are gradually taking them back. We are approaching Lysychansk and Sievierodonetsk in Luhansk region. And the Russians do nothing about this. Therefore, they began to threaten with the use of nuclear weapons, but this would be a disaster for Russia itself”, Sichen explains.

“They are completely demotivated. They are given 100 thousand rubles each, but this money has to be spent on equipment. This problem has become quite radical. I see no signs that the Russians use these recruits en masse. So far they close the breaches at the front, but do not form new units. Because military units in some places are halved after fighting. On the other hand, the issue of Belarus has intensified. The mobilized are sent there. They may attempt an attack, but our northern border is closed by the Armed Forces and Territorial Defense of Ukraine. And they will stop them”, says Sichen.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine have begun the de-occupation of Luhansk region. Several settlements have already been liberated from the Russian invaders. This was announced on October 5 by the head of the Luhansk OVA Serhii Gaidai. After a successful counterattack by the Ukrainian military, the Russian invaders are fortifying themselves in two cities of Luhansk region. In particular, they are preparing for defense in Kreminna and Svatove.
