“It Is Necessary to Go to Shelters”: What to Expect from Russian Missile Attacks

Ivan Sichen, an expert of the Independent Analytical Center for Geopolitical Studies “Borysfen Intel”, for Gazeta.ua

Russia will continue missile terror of Ukraine because it is being defeated — on the battlefield and on the diplomatic front. The Kremlin is trying to take revenge on Ukrainians, intimidate civilians and force our state to negotiate. Therefore, people should be vigilant in the near future. This was stated in a comment to Gazeta.ua by military analyst Ivan Sichen.

“The Russians have no success at the front. They are trying to take revenge on Ukraine. They still want to force us to negotiate. Now our country is preparing for a counteroffensive and the Russians want to disrupt it by all means. This month there were several key events in the international arena. The G7 Summit, NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Our President attended the Arab League summit. All these events show that Ukraine is winning on the diplomatic front. Therefore, Russia is trying to respond, shelling our capital”, Sichen said.

Such shelling will continue in the near future, the analyst explained.

“They will throw all their forces and means. They can’t put pressure at the front. They lost their potential. They can only shoot missiles at us. But their massiveness may change. Because the Russians are trying to save missiles. Our air defense destroys almost all missiles that fly at Ukraine. The air defense system may not be 100 percent effective, but we have good results. Almost all cruise missiles can be shot down, ballistic missiles are more difficult to destroy — but they are also shot down. Ukraine is already trying to attack with naval drones Russian warships from which missiles are fired in the Black Sea. People should remember that in the near future they need to go to the shelters and be vigilant. Because the Russians will continue their attacks”, Sichen added.

On May 29, Russia again attacked Ukraine with missiles. The Ukrainian capital was under fire. In Podilskyi district, rocket debris fell on the roadway, one person was injured.

At early hours of the same day, Kyiv had survived its 15th air attack since early May 2023. The Russians used Shahed drones and Kh-101/555 missiles — more than 40 air targets in total. Thanks to the air defense, successful hits were avoided. There were no casualties in the attack, the city’s military administration said.

All in all, Russia fired up to 40 cruise missiles and about 35 drones at Ukraine that night. 37 missiles and 29 Shahed drones were shot down, the Ukrainian Air Force said.
