Evolution of Politicians’ Attitude to Nord Stream 2

The United States Will Have the Final Word

Tensions are rising in Europe over the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, designed to supply gas from Russia to Germany bypassing Ukraine. Military expert community warns that changing such a transportation route will free the hands of the Kremlin, which will be able to use military force more widely against Ukraine, that is, to move to expanded hostilities. As Russia will no longer need the gas pipeline laid on Ukrainian territory, will not pay Ukraine for its use, and will also receive additional economic dividends from the supply of gas to Europe by the Nord Stream 2.

German politicians — V. Putin’s friends, rubbing their hands in anticipation of profits, keep persuading Europe that the project is exclusively economic in nature, so its politicization is inappropriate and even harmful. Does this situation not resemble the events on the eve of World War II, in particular, the USSR’s close cooperation with Germany, when the Kremlin provided economic assistance to Berlin?

Tensions in Europe are rising over the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. The positions of all parties are clear, as clear are the reason for their irreconcilability. Obviously, the final word in this case will be said by the United States after the presidential election scheduled for November 2020.
