Azarov’s statement about “freezing of the part of GTS“ most likely is provocative, not constructive.

Mykola Azarov’s statement about “freezing of two branches of GTS“ is actually “Bear’s Services” to Ukraine.

Along with correct, in general, reasoning, Azarov’s statement sounds populist, and at least premature, if not provocative.

Firstly, Azarov palely repeats ridiculous statements of the Kremlin, that sound like blackmailing the Ukrainian side. The result of this blackmail is known, it is negative. The Russian side also should not be blackmailed. It is funny to say the least.

Secondly, Azarov does not specify which exactly parts of GTS will be “frozen” (and the experts keep silence too). Perhaps he does not know that it is technically impossible to “freeze” a part of GTS without losses for today’s Ukrainian consumers, because long ago, in the times of the Soviet Union, Ukrainian GTS was designed in such a way that it simultaneously performs two functions: inner supply and transit. Then, perhaps, Azarov has received an instruction: some oligarch has to be «disconnected from the gas». Which regions are meant to be disconnected? Who, when and how much will pay for the technical division of the GTS? Budget of Ukraine?
