The Year 2022”.

This is the first collection of stories about the Heroes of Ukraine awarded by the State for the valor shown since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion on February 24, 2022. It contains the main open data, with the help of which the reader will realize the personal courage and heroism of military servicemen in confrontation with an insidious enemy, for which they were awarded the highest state award. The book also provides basic information about the knights of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi of three classes, full knights of the Order For Courage and those awarded the President of Ukraine’s insignia Cross of Military Merit in 2022.

All the data and photos in the book are exclusively from open sources.

From the author’s preface

At all times, outstanding personalities, courageous figures, selfless warriors appear in the Ukrainian history, whose names will be passed on for many years from generation to generation, cementing people’s memory, inspiring contemporaries and successors with hope in difficult periods for the State. After all, without such Heroes there can be no nation, it is the nation that gives birth to its valiant heroes.

Usually, Ukrainian heroes are ordinary people, but during the wartime they got united and, at the call of their hearts, joined the ranks of the defenders of the Motherland. Self-sacrifice for a free life in a free country is one of the feature of a freedom-loving Ukrainian defender.

Therefore, the proposed publication is, first of all, about our brave warriors — true Heroes, whom the State has awarded for special merits since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion on February 24, 2022. We invite readers to get acquainted with the main open biographical and military data about the best sons and daughters of Ukraine, who bravely resisted insidious enemy, for which they were awarded the highest state awards. Short biographical posts about the Heroes are placed in alphabetical order, positions and military ranks are indicated as of the day of awarding the high state title of Hero of Ukraine.

From the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion until the end of 2022, the 201 warriors were awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine by Decrees of the President of Ukraine, 93 of them posthumously. But this number of Heroes does not include closed decrees on some officers of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and individual representatives of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine. It should be emphasized that all information is are exclusively from open sources. Therefore, inaccuracies are possible in some information and photos, for which we apologize in advance.

The publication also provides basic data on 66 knights of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi of three classes (16 of them since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion), 57 full knights of the Order For Courage (23 of them since the beginning of the full-scale aggression) and 61 servicemen awarded the President of Ukraine’s insignia Cross of Military Merit in 2022.

The book offered to readers is a result of cooperation between partner organizations — the Independent Analytical Center for Geopolitical Studies “Borysfen Intel” and the Foundation of Veterans of Military Intelligence of Ukraine. Volodymyr Raievskyi, Oleh Makhno and Oleh Kaliniuk worked together with the author. Special words of gratitude for the leadership, advice and assistance in the work to Generals Olexandr Fedorovych Bielov and Yurii Tymofiiovych Levchenko, and Colonel Volodymyr Markovych Raievskyi — for the creative approach to the design of the book. Many thanks also to the authors of many Internet projects and publications that constantly highlight and honor the heroic deeds of our Heroes.

All comments on the information (they are undoubtedly possible) will be taken into consideration during the republishing. We hope that after our victory, most archives, documents and submissions on awarding Heroes will become open, which in the future will allow us to compile a more accurate version of the book. The whole country, our contemporaries and successors should know about the heroic deeds of Ukraine’s sons and daughters, remember at what price we get the long-awaited Victory.

At one of the celebrations on the occasion of awarding the high state title of Hero of Ukraine, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi stressed: “None of us is can know how many more such ceremonies will take place before we reach the main, desired ceremony that millions of Ukrainians are looking forward to. But Ukrainian Victory will be! We will celebrate it! I ask all of you: in thoughts about our Victory, in anticipation of our Victory, in the upcoming celebration of our Victory and after our Victory, please always keep one feeling — a feeling of gratitude to the servicemen who are fighting for Ukraine’s Victory. And a feeling of gratitude to the families of our soldiers which gave the Ukrainian people such heroic people… We must remember that behind every achievement of our Defense Forces there are the heroes’ lives given for Independence”.

GLORY TO UKRAINE! GLORY TO THE HEROES!
